Hatzolah rises to the Argus challenge

In March this year, our cycling team made its way down to Cape Town to participate in the 2nd Argus Cycle Challenge. This year was our biggest success to date, with the largest team in Hatzolah history, including a few expats who briefly returned to our shores to be part of the most scenic and exciting cycle race in the world.

Hatzolah volunteers, paramedics and community members joined 26 000 fellow competitors and rode together to raise funds for our organization. The team stayed at the President Hotel, complete with our own dining room for all meals, and spent a restful Shabbos carbo-loading on the delicious meals organised by Sharon Newfield. Sharon, our team captain, arranged all the details for the trip, including making sure our bikes were all successfully transported to Cape Town and insured. She also organised fantastic goodie bags for all participants, embroidered team uniforms and towels, our race numbers and our packs. A big thank you to Sharon.

The day got off to a windy start but we remained undeterred as we knew we had the support of dozens of friends, family and community members, all camped out on beach road shouting their encouragement. We loved the support and are so grateful to everyone who made the effort. More cyclists in our team completed the race than all previous years – a great achievement – and overall the weekend was a resounding success. However the greatest news of all is that Hatzolah raised R400 000.00 for the organization, a figure we plan to beat next year, along with our own personal records, of course!

We look forward to an even larger team next year, so if anyone is interested in joining us please contact Sharon at 0860 100 101 for more details.
